Rapid diagnosis in returning travellers with health problems can be life saving

For many health problems in returning travellers a rapid diagnosis with rapid tests can be done immediately in our surgery within 10-20 minutes using blood, urine or feces for the following diseases:

  • Malaria falciparum (by Plasmodium falciparum)
  • Tertian Malaria (by Plasmodium vivax and ovale)
  • Quartan Malaria (by plasmodium malariae)
  • Dengue-fever
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV 1 and 2
  • Chagas
  • Rotavirus
  • Adenovirus
  • Lambliasis/Giardiasis
  • Kryptosporidiosis
  • Cytomegaly
  • Toxoplasmosis
  • Rubella
  • Herpes 1 and 2
  • Mononucleosis,  Epstein Barr Virus, Glandular fever
  • Legioner's disease, Legionellosis
  • Pneumomonia
  • Influenza
  • Helicobacter pylori Infection
  • Streptococci Infection, scarlet fever
  • Filariosis
  • Chlamydia trachomatis Infection
  • Syphilis
  • Tuberculosis
  • Differentiation between infectious and functional diarrhoea
  • Differentiation between viral and bacterial infection
  • Diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis after long haul flights

Since these methods are sligthly more expensive than other tests they are not used on large scale. However, if you want a diagnosis as soon as possible these tests are an excellent tool and sometimes can be even life saving.
