Healthy lifestyle means a lot more than just reducing weight or giving up smoking

I am dedicated to improve the health of my patients by lifestyle medicine. Only by adapting a balanced lifestyle people can sustain good health for a long time.

My focus is on the following areas:

Reducing weight with the help of your genes and ethno-medicine

Weight reduction: still a challenge for doctors and patients

One of my main areas in preventative medicine is to help people loose weight as one of the major steps towards healthier lifestyle.

I have specialised in analysing the reasons for overweight and to tackle them in order to achieve long term reduction of weight. Hereby I am trying to avoid and repeat mistakes that have been made by others. In my opinion we need to overcome genetic disadvantages (incl. those having to do with predisposition for certain intestinal bacterias promoting weight loss or gain) of various sorts for long periods of our lives to succeed in reducing weight without ending in frustration and I can assure you that I have found ways to help every single patient. For every patient however, this will be an individual approach.

Loosing weight is tough and needs more discipline than we imagine, but the benefits and rewards for reducing body weight and getting slimmer and fitter and changing the body composition are so overwhelming that most of my patients stay with their achievements.

My method differs from others in that I use a very thorough individualized analysis of the causes of overweight including

  1. energy output (rather than caloric intake)
  2. genetic factors
  3. individual metabolism of food and energy 
  4. food intolerances

as a baseline and treat overweight by using these findings and ethno-medical knowledge and traditions rather than medication and diets to reduce weight.

Staying fit and healthy from 30-90

I offer workshops and courses to learn what exercise is best for you and how to do it. These courses are not only particularly important for those who have never done any kind of sports or exercise but for those who want to improve and optimise their physical training with respect to their health gains.

At the beginning of such course is an analysis of your physical capacity as well as a risk calculation as to what extent you can and should perform.

The courses take place in different locations (such as Alicante, Munich or Antalya) include a lot more about lifestyle than just sport and exercise and are usually great fun. The courses will be matched according to age and physical activity level.

Work-Life Balance is the new trend. In my workshops you can find out where your balance is and how you can achieve it. These courses will give you a lot of hands on information about how your lifestyle should be. It is up to you to make decisions and changes. But make the right ones!

Gene test, genetic risk factors, gene polymorphisms,risk calculation of chronic illness and risk minimization

Genetic polymorphisms predispose to a range of chronic diseases such as arteriosclerosis, cancer, rheumatism, mental health problems, overweight and obesity and many other. However the risk of these diseases can be largely modified and minimized by a number of measures including lifestyle factors. 

With now affordable gene tests we can identify and calculate your individual genetic risk for many diseases. The reason to do so is because we can change this risk. Gene polymorphisms show us how to tailor diets or specific medication according to your metobolic capacity and genetic make-up. This is now an affordable and routinely applied technology. Gene tests for genetic polymorphisms need to be done only once in your life and will provide you the most valuable information about your health if the right choices regarding which genes to test are made by your doctor. Therefore we advise not to do any of the many genetests offered by companies via the internet but to contact a doctor who works with an accredited laboratory to test for genetic polymorphisms and to be bale to provide you with a valid interpretation of the results of your gentest.

I am working probably with the number one laboratory in the world for commercial gentests, Genosense in Vienna.

 

Biological age and vitality

Assessing the biological age against the chronological age:

We are now in the position to determine the biological age and vitality markers of your organs such as heart, lung, brain, kidney, intestinal tract, skin, nerves, senses, muscles and tendons. This is not done by a questionnaire as you find many of them in the internet but done by physical and laboratory tests that are validated and standardized using a programme called BioAging. 

This could be relevant in finding your specific weaknesses and developing strategies to improve them.

The critical period for the human race is usually between 50 and 60. If you can avoid major problems such as major operations and illness before this age you have the chance to stay very fit and healthy way into 80-90 years.
